The HSG is an early intervention grant programme, funded by the Welsh Government. The programme has been set up to help some of Wales’ most vulnerable people to live independently in their own home or supported housing.

Service description

Floating support to clients in their own home, to enable them to avoid the risk of homelessness. For example, maintaining the condition of the dwelling, reducing social isolation, and feeling safe.

Service description

Supported living project that houses adults over the age of 16 at risk of homelessness, referred through our (Wrexham Council’s) Housing Options Team or social services. Client-centred support services include housing-related support, and signposting to any relevant agencies requested by the service user.

Service description

This project within the Foyer complex provides accommodation and housing-related support. The people who use the service have generic housing needs.

The service aims to enable vulnerable people to gain the skills needed to get and keep their accommodation by empowering people to take control of their finances, understand their obligations as tenants and improve their life skills, thereby reducing the likelihood of repeat homelessness.

Service description

Citadel is a homelessness prevention project which supports people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness, to find and/or sustain their tenancies and establish a home. We work with volunteers to achieve this. Prevention, rapid re-housing support and tenancy support.

The Wallich

Scheme: St John’s House/Richmond House/Rhosddu Road Projects

  • Eligibility: Single people aged 18 years and above from within Wrexham County Borough who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. They can self-refer or be referred through our (Wrexham Council’s) Housing Support Gateway.

Service description

This temporary supported accommodation service has 22 units across three sites, with access to 24-hour on-site support. The Rhosddu Road shared house can accommodate people who are ready to move on from St John’s or Richmond House and looking to get back into work.

The three projects provide support and advice as well as signposting to more specialist services where relevant, such as substance misuse services, GP, and mental health services.

The project also offers support for people to develop independent living skills and gain access to other services such as healthcare, training and education.

The Wallich supports individuals by using the principles of Trauma Informed Care and Psychologically Informed Environments to try to achieve the best outcomes for those accessing the service.

The scheme will accommodate pets wherever possible, and this is decided on a case-by-case basis.

Scheme: Conflict Resolution Service (CRS)

Service description

An impartial and independent service, provided by trained and accredited staff.

The service is free of charge and available to anyone who is experiencing a non-legal and non-violent dispute affecting their housing situation. This could be family breakdown; neighbour disputes; or landlord and tenant disputes.

Conflict resolution is a process where people in disagreement or conflict use a third person (a mediator) to help them communicate and resolve issues.

Mediation is used to enable people to talk effectively about issues and help them to reach an agreement that suits both sides.

Scheme: WCBC Housing Support Scheme

  • Eligibility: Vulnerable individuals who need support in order to establish or maintain their accommodation. Clients can refer themselves or be referred through the Gateway by housing officers, social workers, or other professionals.

Service description

Support to vulnerable individuals in their own homes or temporary accommodation, to enable them to avoid the risk of homelessness by offering advice with setting up or running their home.

Advice on finance and budgeting, claiming benefits, paying bills and all aspects of the tenancy. Assistance can be given with accessing other services and professional advice, feeling safe, finding employment/voluntary work, and feeling part of the community.
