Course details: The Basic Paediatric First Aid course is aimed at anyone who cares for children including Childcare professionals. It is a 6-hour course, approved by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW).
This course should be repeated every three years.
The course is a mixture of practical and theory. There is no formal assessment at the end of the course. Practitioners learning will be assessed throughout the course.
- Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take.
- Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
- Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
- Help a baby or child who is having a seizure.
- Help a baby or child who is choking.
- Help a baby or child who is bleeding.
- Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (Hypovolemic shock)
