Kerbside caddy (food waste)

What can go in my kerbside caddy?

You can put most food waste in your caddy, including:

  • Out of date/mouldy foods
  • Fruit and veg – raw and cooked, as well as peelings
  • Meat and fish – raw and cooked, as well as bones
  • Egg shells
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Uneaten food from your plate

No thanks!

Avoid putting any of the following in your caddy:

  • Food packaging
  • Plastic carrier bags
  • Other type of waste or recycling (household or garden)
  • Liquids (such as oil, milk or juice)

You should avoid putting liquids into your caddy to prevent ‘bin juice’ from collecting at the bottom.

However, you can put in ‘semi-liquid’ foods such as eggs and yoghurt.

Compostable liners

You can also request more free liners by tying an empty liner to the handle of your kerbside caddy on collection day.

Never use plastic carrier bags as they don't compost. If you decide to buy your own liners, make sure they have the European Bioplastics compostable logo.

Kerbside caddies are collected every week.

Don't forget you can take garden waste to your nearest household recycling centre to dispose of free of charge. Or, if you have the space, you can compost it at home.

Bulky household items

Some items are too large or heavy for your normal bin collection (such as furniture, white goods and garden equipment). If you have any bulky items you can order a bulky household item removal.

Alternatively you can take the items to your local household recycling centre and there are also places you can donate furniture to in Wrexham.

Sign up for bin reminders

If you sign up for reminders you’ll receive a weekly email the day before each collection - so you never have to remember what bin goes out when.
