As the Highway Authority we have a duty under the Highways Act 1980 Section 169 to control scaffolding erected on the adopted highway. You will need a scaffolding permit to put up scaffolding on the adopted highway.
Apply for a scaffolding permit
You can apply for a scaffolding permit by completing our online form. All applications will need to be made at least seven working days in advance.
Scaffolding permit cost
A scaffolding permit for up to seven days costs £70 per scaffold. Each additional week costs £50 per scaffold. No refunds will be given after the start date of the permit.
What happens next?
When your application is made it will first need to be assessed to ensure its eligibility. If your application is approved you will receive email confirmation of this including any specific site requirements and a link to make the payment for the permit. Once payment has been made then your permit is ‘live’ for use as permitted.
