Adult Community Learning

If you’re interested in learning a new skill, boosting your career opportunities or connecting with others in a supportive and fun way; then an Adult Community Learning course could be for you.

Working with Flintshire County Council, we have formed the North East Wales Adult Community Learning partnership.

We aim to provide quality adult learning opportunities in our communities, for anyone aged 19 or over.

We work together to provide:

engagement and advice courses and one-off sessions – if you are seeking a new interest or skill and would like to meet like-minded people
accredited (officially recognised) courses – if you need a particular qualification to progress onto the next stage of your career

We work with a range of quality training providers to deliver courses across Wrexham and Flintshire; to meet the needs of our communities.

Course providers

In Wrexham, our lead provider is Groundwork North Wales who offer a range of exciting and engaging sessions and courses but we work with several partners across the region to make sure the course offered is right for you.

About Groundwork North Wales

Groundwork North Wales supports people facing multiple challenges, living in isolation, with significant health issues, limited employment prospects and who are vulnerable to the economic and environmental uncertainty of today’s society.

They aim to create better places, improve people’s prospects and promote greener choices through a diverse range of projects and services.

The adult community learning provision offered by Groundwork North Wales includes:

support for those taking the first steps into learning
help to develop skills for life and embed basic skills
employability and employment courses
family learning opportunities
a range of taster and engagement courses

Additional Learning Needs

As a learner we encourage you to let us know about any learning needs when you sign up for a course, so that the course provider can make sure you are given the right support.

We also have procedures in place to identify and, where appropriate, to assess learners with additional learning needs.

Types of support

If we know that you have additional learning needs there are a few ways we may be able to provide support, including:

Advice and referrals to a range of specialist agencies that can support you
Assistive equipment and mobility support
Exam access arrangements or concessions
Help with coursework and homework
Help with learning in and out of class
Tutorial support with a course tutor
Welfare support and information
Wellbeing support to make sure you can stay on track
Note takers or tape-recorded notes if you have any difficulty in taking notes
British Sign Language Communication support
Assistive hearing devices if you have a hearing impairment
Specialist assistive or enabling software and resources

You can access any of the above services in several ways:

By letting us know when you sign up to a course and fill in your enrolment form
Talk to your tutor, who can request support on your behalf
Contact our adult community learning team at any time during your course

Cost

All of our Adult Community Learning Courses are free.

If you access courses from other providers and where there is a charge for a course you may be able to request support to help you pay for it.

Complaints

The North East Wales Adult Community Learning Partnership is committed to dealing effectively with any concerns or complaints you may have. We aim to clarify any issues of which you may be unsure.

If possible, any mistakes that may have been made will be put right. We aim to learn from mistakes and use the information to improve our services.
