Electric bikes, electric scooters and hover boards are a potential fire risk due to the lithium-ion batteries they contain.
This is because if the batteries overheat they can explode or catch fire, causing fast growing flames and excessive smoke which releases hazard gases which could be harmful to you and your property.
As your landlord, ensuring the safety of both our contract holders and properties is important to us.
Your responsibility as a council contract holder
Mobility scooters
You must have permission to store and maintain mobility scooters in a council property. This applies also to existing contract holders who may already own a mobility scooter.
If you rent a home from the council, you must contact your local housing office for advice if you own or are thinking of getting a mobility scooter.
We will ask you to complete an application form to get permission.
We’ll usually grant permission, provided it can be stored and charged safely.
You cannot store mobility scooters in any communal areas such as corridors, under staircases or communal lounges.
