Insurance types
Public liability insurance can cover bodily injury or property damage to a third party (such as a care worker) while care is taking place.
Employers' liability insurance can cover compensation payments and legal costs if an employee sues their employer or ex-employer for a work-related illness or injury.
Whose responsibility is to it take out insurance?
If you are employing a personal assistant, it is your responsibility to have employers' liability insurance, and public liability insurance in place.
If you are using a micro-enterprise, it is the micro-enterprise’s responsibility to have employers' liability insurance and public liability insurance in place.
You can request to view their insurance certificates to check that it is valid and in date.
