Focus Group: What's Stopping you From Becoming an Assembly Member?

We would like to invite you to a small focus group to discuss the barriers to stand as a candidate for the National Assembly for Wales. As well as people with experience at different levels of politics, we are keen to involve people who have considered undertaking a political role but have not done so yet, for whatever reason.

In the groups, we will discuss what type of barriers people face and what type of new incentives would encourage more people to put their names forward as election candidates. You will not be pressured to contribute your personal experiences. Rather, it is a way to discuss general barriers and to test public opinion on new incentives. Participants will receive £20 in appreciation of your time.

The research is conducted by the Wales Governance Centre (Cardiff University) and is funded by the independent Remuneration Board of the National Assembly for Wales.

MWL Systems FREE Event: Cybersecurity, GDPR and IT Efficiency

The main focus of this event will be on data & network security and the new GDPR regulations that become law on the 25th May next year. Britain’s businesses are being urged to better protect themselves from cyber criminals as a result of high profile government research into cyber security revealed that two thirds of UK businesses had been hit by a cyber breach or attack in the past year. The cost to businesses amounts to billions of pounds – as an example, the ‘Bogus boss’ scam alone has cost companies over £1.6billion worldwide Significantly, nearly seven out of ten attacks on all firms involve viruses, spyware or malware, which can be prevented using the correct technology. Both the internal and external threats facing any organisation’s IT environment are greater than ever, and companies are rapidly recognising that with the constant challenge of maintaining network security, adapting to new and ever more sophisticated threats and managing often unpredictable costs, they need guidance to help them along the way. Businesses are becoming increasingly reliant on IT and as the requirement to work anywhere, anytime grows, so does the risk of a cyberattack. That can pose a serious risk to organisations causing system failure, loss of critical data and financial loss. If you are an IT decision maker we will show you what you can do to combat these threats. Join us on the 26th September. Nestling in 27 acres of Cheshire woodland, Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel is a tranquil country house haven offering secluded luxury within beautiful surroundings Agenda as follows: 08.30 - 9.00: Arrival, Bacon Sarnies and Peer Networking, 09.00 - 09.30: Regional Cyber Crime Unit, 09.30 - 10.15: GDPR & Data Security, 10.15: Break, 10.30 - 11.15: Combating the threat of Cyberattacks with Sophos, 11.15 - 12.00: How to greatly improve your Document Management, 12.00: Quick Break, 12.05 - 13.00– Overview of Microsoft Office 365 Suite of products, 13.00 – Lunch, We will also be entering every attendee in to a draw to win an Apple Watch!

Round the Table Networking at Thornton Science Park

The West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce is joining together in partnership with the team at Thornton Science Park to host a Round the Table Networking Breakfast Event, held on Thursday 9th November. Thornton Science Park is now part of the University of Chester, marking the start of a new science hub for the region. With it’s cutting-edge facilities and sleek conference and seminar suites, it is a fantastic addition to the University’s ever-expanding campus. So get together and join fellow Chamber members, all whilst making great business connections. All guests in attendance will be treated to refreshments on arrival which have been generously provided by our co-hosts at Thornton Science Park. Once guests have been welcomed and enjoyed their breakfast beverages, they will make their way into the suite before the networking fun begins. Round the Table Networking is one of the Chamber’s specialty events, providing guests with the opportunity to meet plenty of people from across the region. Each table goes ’round the table’ and shares their story, before swapping seats and repeating the fun! The event promises to be plenty of fun and gives delegates the opportunity to swap contact details, meet individuals from a range of businesses and organisations and network with fellow Chamber members. Don’t forget to bring your business cards! **Please note: due to the nature of the site, Thornton Science Park is subject to high levels of security and has restricted access so guests MUST book onto the event in advance. Entrance will only be granted to authorized guests and so you must inform the Chamber of your intention to attend. On arrival, you will be signed in by security who will then direct you to the canteen where the event is being held. We look forward to welcoming you there and hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be a wonderful event.
