The Last One Standing: The Tale of Bersham Colliery

On December 18th 1986, the last tub of coal was wound to the surface at Bersham Colliery. With the closure of the last pit in the Denbighshire coalfield, a centuries-old tradition came to an end. This exhibition tells the story of coal mining through the history of one pit, that although often threatened with closure, outlasted many larger and more modern collieries. Wrexham Heritage Forum – March Talk

Bridget Drukker will be giving a talk and tour about Black Park Chapel, which was built in the late nineteenth century, in the Simple Gothic style with a gable-entry plan. The evening will include historical photos, stories from the local community; plus you can discover the links to John Prescott and Billy Meredith. Timed to coincide with Wales’s first appearance at an international football finals since 1958, this exhibition chronicles the heroic endeavours of the Wales’s greatest footballers. The right of a Wales team to exist has often been questioned and its stars refused permission to play; however, the team has become one of the unifiers of Wales and its star players – John Charles, Ian Rush, Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale, some of the most famous Welshmen in the world. The eventful story is told through the artefacts and archives of the Welsh Football Collection.
